Monaco is witnessing the arrival of a new wave of residents: wealthy, younger, and dynamic families drawn by its international schools and safe, high-quality living environment. This demographic shift is pushing the Principality to adapt its infrastructure and expand its educational offerings to meet growing demand.
While Monaco has traditionally attracted affluent individuals nearing retirement or already retired, a new trend appears to be taking root. According to real estate agents interviewed by L’Obs’, the average age of Monaco’s new residents is decreasing. “Of course, a certain level of purchasing power is required to buy property in the Principality. So, we’re not seeing 25-year-olds knocking on real estate agency doors. Typically, our clients are at least in their forties,” explains Gilles Graille, manager of Pacific Agency. And these younger generations are not coming alone. “It’s mostly families moving here with their children, which was much less common in the past,” confirms Jean-Yves Le Graverend, director of John Taylor Monaco.
Expanded Educational Offerings
To accommodate these new families, Monaco has had to adapt — and significantly expand — its educational options. “The resources allocated to developing institutions like the International School of Monaco and the British School of Monaco prove that the demand is real” says Florian Valeri, director of Valeri Agency. “Whether in private or public schools, there are long waiting lists. The fact that children can be educated in a European country, in small class sizes, with some of the region’s best teachers, in a secure environment with rich sports and cultural offerings, is a major draw for wealthy families. This favorable educational environment is a significant advantage compared to competing locations like Dubai,” he adds. Another notable benefit is that these new residents, often at the height of their careers, contribute to Monaco’s economy. Their presence creates opportunities within the local business community and, through their networks, encourages others to consider relocating to the Principality.
